Tera crystals wasn’t something he knew much about. He supposed that was something that needed to change, especially after the whole ordeal where he had been kidnapped for forced labor. So when he had heard of the possibility of a the possibility of a new cavern with Tera Crystals appearing at Mount Chimney by his superiors he had immediately jumped at the opportunity. And since he was still only a ranger cadet it had just been turned into a mission with a fellow ranger.

It was another ranger that he had to work with. To him it seemed he worked with a new ranger every time he had a new mission. It was probably to get him use to working with a variety of different people. That was the only reason he could think of.

Reaching the designated meeting spot he looked around. He wasn’t to surprised that he had been the first to arrive. Now all there was to wait. Hopefully it wouldn’t take his partner to long to arrive. Not that he was the impatient sort, it was just a bit hot to be standing around without some kind of shade.

While he waited he thought about what the mission would entail. As long as nothing drastic happened the mission would probably be a simple mission. But he had a feeling this mission would turn out to be a test for him. It was just a feeling he had. One that he couldn’t shake. If he had learned anything in his life it was to never ignore what his instincts were telling him.

Footsteps drew him from his thoughts and he looked towards the source. He eyed the approaching person and pushed himself away from the wall he had been leaning against. ”You’re the other ranger?” he inquired just to be sure this was really his partner. With the sun in his eyes it was just kind of hard to make out what the person looked like.[break] ollie morales

[break][break] The Head Ranger leaped off of his Wyrdeer, arriving just a few minutes shy of their designated meeting time. Ollie wasn't the most punctual of people — in his defense, though, he had a lot on his plate!

[break][break] His Pikachu gave a similar greeting as it was perched on his shoulder, waving at the other man.

[break][break] "Nice ta see ya out in the field." He smiled easily, then began to lead their way deeper into the cavern. This was a Tera Crystal cave that had popped up only recently and as was their job, they needed to investigate just to make sure there wasn't anything dangerous inside. Especially with the upcoming war preparations.

“Correct,” he said simply before continuing. “That would make you Ranger Morales then,” he said, the comment coming off more as a statement than a question despite the wording. He was pretty sure it was the person who was working with him, considering he knew his name; however, he still needed to be sure. One never knew when information about a person was stolen after all; he was the type of person who liked being prepared for any scenario, even if it meant being a little paranoid.

Looking at the position of the sun, he would notice the other was a bit late. With anyone else, under different circumstances, he probably would’ve said something about it. Instead of doing any of that, he remained silent.

Returning his attention to the older male, he noticed the Pikachu on the man’s shoulder. Briefly returning the wave, his attention was drawn back to the head ranger when he started speaking.

“Thank you, it’s nice to be here,” he commented, sounding a bit uncertain, like he wasn’t really sure what to think of the older man. “So is there anything specific we’re supposed to be looking for? I admit I’m not too familiar with Tera crystals,” he admitted his tone once more impassive.

Once it was clear the would head inside, he would release Flash a larger than normal Zeroara from its pokeball. “I want you to work as an early alert system in case we’re about to run into trouble,” he told the electric cat as they went into the cavern.

At the question, he shook his head while also giving a verbal response. “No. Flash sense anything?” he asked, glancing at the feline Pokemon who shook their heads. He supposed that meant they would have to go further in.[break] ollie morales

[break][break] Sure enough, they start on the path, heading deeper into the caves.

[break][break] "Well," he starts, emerald gaze glancing at the uneven walls, the glimmering crystal that juts out unevenly from the cave's interior. "We're just doing a patrol today, just to make sure we don't find anything unusual."

[break][break] He thinks about the strange buildings that they'd found deep within Area Zero, no doubt evidence of the DRK Triad's interference.

[break][break] "If we see any hurt or rampaging pokemon, we can capture and relocate them."

[break][break] Eyes follow the sight of the larger than usual Zeroara as it led the way deeper into the cavern.

Being referred to by his first name was definitely better than going by his last name. He could tolerate it, but it still made him fairly uncomfortable, like he should be looking over his shoulder for his father. Not that his father had ever been a ranger or anything like that.

A patrol, huh? He wondered if it would actually end up being so simple. With his luck, probably not.
[break][break]
“Sounds good,” he said, simply trying not to jinx anything. Maybe if he didn’t say too much in the way of what they were doing, nothing would happen. Maybe it would actually stay a patrol. He doubted with his luck it would happen, but it was worth a shot.
[break][break]
Just the thought of any Pokémon being hurt made his expression darken slightly. He never liked the idea of Pokémon being hurt; it’s why he still had certain hangups about battling. He was getting better at getting past some of those hangups, but it wasn’t easy when he wasn’t one for violence; he didn’t even like action movies on the off chance there would be violence.

“Will do, though I do have a Pokémon that has healing, so that should help as well if that were to happen,” he mentioned, trying not to get too hung up on the idea of a Pokémon; maybe he was injured somewhere in the cavern system.

Some emotion passed through his SAPPHIRE orbs at the line of questioning but disappeared before the emotion could be determined, leaving behind the usual impassiveness. “I’ve been well enough. I got caught up in that whole abduction mess; wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle though.”

He wasn’t sure how much his superiors knew about all that. And he honestly didn’t care enough to ask. Though he supposed he would rather not be seen as crazy. So if that could be managed, he was all good.

Before he could add anything else. Maybe return the question. Flash suddenly became more alert and started looking around like they were trying to figure out what direction a sound it had picked up was coming from.[break] ollie morales

[break][break] "You sure? Cause I'm pretty sure I've heard the opposite."

[break][break] Mountains of paperwork on his desk, all vary reports from those who had gone missing or gotten abducted. He still remembered the vacant look in PENELOPE LIVY's eyes as she'd turned up to his apartment, still remembered the absent look of Eva Morales as she sat in that hospital bed. Even paxton concordas seemed different when he came back, and he could pretty much put up with anything.

He wasn’t sure what the older man wanted him to say. That life had already messed him up so much that he had just been numb to what had happened? That while he was much better at handling situations like that than the average person, he wasn’t really dealing with it as well as he could. That he was completely and utterly not okay and had never really been.

Sure, he was sure he could say all that and maybe more, but he didn’t think he could. Admitting he might actually be over his head. That he might actually need help wasn’t exactly his strength. He had way too much PRIDE in him to actually ask for help, which in a situation like this wasn’t exactly a good thing.

“What can I say? I’m used to hardships; what’s one more thing to make sleep impossible? My life’s never been easy, and aside from seeing someone so brutally killed, I can’t say I was too phased by what happened. Pain doesn’t bother me; I suffered broken ribs, among other things, well before I ended up in Hoenn, and being abducted wasn’t the first time I ended up in a near-death situation either; I’m more used to my life hanging in the balance than being safe,” he admitted, tone somewhat resigned.

It was clear he had accepted suffering as just a way of life at this point. Sure, he was sure he could figure out a way to rectify it, but what was the point in that? He had already come to terms with the fact that life in general just sucked.

Was that the best way to go about living? Probably not.

It wasn’t entirely healthy to go about your life expecting the worst to happen. But would he do anything to change his point of view? No.

"Anyway, I don’t like burdening anyone with my problems,” he told the older man as he redirected his attention to Flash, who sometime during the conversation had wondered a bit away from them, probably searching for that noise that had seemed to catch their attention, though Ever himself hadn’t heard anything.

The Zeroara seemed to figure things out and looked back at their trainer as if to say they had noticed something. “Flash seems to have heard something,” he told the older ranger as he resumed walking, not even remembering having stopped.[break] ollie morales
